(For example, AI expense management platform Ramp noted in April 2025 companies are now paying $2.50 per 1 million tokens—the fundamental unit for powering AI—compared with $10 a year ago.) “We’ve been at it making machines forever, since the industrial revolution, at scale,” Marinescu told Fortune. “We know from economics that … you often run—for these kinds of activities—into decreasing returns, as it gets harder in order to make progress in a line of technology that you’ve been at, in this case, for a couple of centuries.” AI is progressing rapidly, she said. Even with an established need for a universal basic income, finding the political willpower to make it happen is a different issue, said Samuel Solomon, an assistant professor of labor economics at Temple University. He told Fortune the political structure supporting the transformed labor force will be just as important as the technological one. “AI has already created so much wealth and will continue to,” Solomon said. “But I think one key question is: Is this going to be inclusive? Will it create inclusive prosperity? Will it create inclusive growth? Will everyone benefit?” The current systems have appeared to widen the gap between the haves and have-nots during this AI industrial revolution, beginning with Musk’s $1 trillion pay package. It’s not surprising Mordo is making his move against Stephen, but this is far unlike anything Stephen expected. This issue, like many others in this series, is overwhelmed with a kaleidoscope of colors. The story fluctuates between darkness and neon shadings of light while contrasting between the two main narratives. This is something that, while jarring at first, is successful in demonstrating the difference between reality and fiction (in fiction). Through this, Moore carries the weight of the mysticism through this differentiation. Meanwhile, Ferry perfectly balances the lighthearted moments with the ever-needed magical sharpness required for a fantastical issue such as this. Altogether, this is another beautiful issue from cover to cover filled to the brim with wonderful paneling and brilliant colors. Once again, seeing Doctor Strange in a leadership role is something truly enjoyable, as he shines as a smart tactician whose compassion seems never-ending. Additionally, the ending reinforces the notion of this series putting a stronger emphasis on the Doctor part of Doctor Strange; all without him stepping foot in the operating room. Moreover, despite this being a lower-stakes arc in this series, MacKay still delivers a funny story with serious implications. Scott Peck's proposed `evil' subtype of the DSM -IV Narcissistic Personality Disorder in particular. After a review of theoretical and empirical contributions to the psychology of narcissism, two empirical studies were conducted. In the first, joint self- report survey research using 338 subjects investigated the psychometric structure of narcissism, normal and abnormal personality, and constructs theoretically related to narcissism. Item -level exploratory principal components analysis and confirmatory factor analysis resulted in new subscales for the Narcissistic Personality Inventory. Scale -level exploratory principal components analysis of the combined questionnaires found evidence for a five - factor structure of abnormal personality. One of the five factors was related to narcissistic will to power and low agreeableness; another was related to narcissistic self - love and extraversion. Confirmatory factor analysis of a subset of the data found fair fit for the model. Yet, the return of the mutants to Marvel Studios has offered some renewed hope and fans are eager to see Professor X and his X-Men join the fight alongside the Avengers and other heroes. And while there are popular X-Men like Wolverine, Jean Grey, Storm, and Scott Summers, the MCU can finally give proper recognition to a nearly forgotten member of the Summers family. Scott Summers a.k.a Cyclops is likely one of the most popular X-Men and has been featured as a central character in a vast multitude of X-Men comics. Scott was one of Professor X's first students and he has fought against Magneto and the injustices of humanity for a long time, yet his brother Alex Summers, has been almost as long but he is continually underrated or pushed to the side in favor of his brother. Alex Summers is a powerful mutant who has been mistreated in the comics and has failed to receive proper recognition on screen either. By David Harth May 15, 2024 Alex Summers a.k.a Havok first appeared in X-Men #54 in March 1969. Havok was created by Arnold Drake and Don Heck. Havok is most commonly associated with Madelyne Pryor, who he has an on-and-off relationship with. While Scott Summers has always been the golden child of the Summers family, Alex Summers is arguably just as important. After Alex and Scott were both left in an orphanage, Alex was adopted while Scott was left behind. Alex's powers let him absorb energy and turn it into powerful plasma blasts that leap from his body in circle patterns. If Alex doesn't control the plasma in one direction, the energy can go in all directions, causing untold damage. When Alex's powers first manifested he incinerated a boy who kidnapped his friend. Alex's powers were so strong that even Mister Sinister expected that Alex had even more potential than Scott. While Scott had a lot of control over his powers, Alex lacked control until he had a suit made for him that allowed him to finally keep his incredible powers under control. During this time, Alex discovered that his brother was now Cyclops and he went on to join the X-Men himself. Yet, after some time with the X-Men, Alex and Polaris quit the team's active membership but trouble continued to follow Alex. Alex continued his work in the sciences working with people like Moira McTaggert, but then his trouble began when he developed a relationship with Madelyne Pryor, Scott's wife. Scott had abandoned Madelyene for Jean Grey and Alex had developed a strong relationship with her. Madelyne and Alex's relationship has been a constant stream of trouble for the young mutant. When Madelyne became the Goblin Queen, she used Havok to help her carry out her plans. After Madelyne's death, Havok worked with Wolverine to help wherever he could and even prevented a nuclear disaster by absorbing energy and directing it to space. Havok went on to lead X-Factor, a government-sponsored mutant team. He fought many cosmic threats and became an outstanding hero. ✕ Remove Ads The biggest thing that tarnished Alex Summer's reputation was the events of AXIS. When the Red Skull stole Charles Xavier's brain, the Avengers and X-Men joined together and Alex Summers was chosen to lead the Unity Squad. Yet, a magical spell was cast that was intended to invert the Red Skull's brain, making his bad actions good and his good actions bad. This spell affected multiple heroes and villains including Alex, making him evil. While many heroes were saved from this spell, Alex was left evil for a long time. Alex continues to be manipulated by Emma Frost after Scott's actions during a war with the Inhumans. While Alex was a powerful hero in his original comics, modern comics have made him a constant pawn and pushed him to the side in favor of his brother. The MCU can show the extent of Havok's powers, the influence he had when he led X-Factor, and make him stand out from his brother. In Age of Apocalypse, Alex welcomes Scott to Xaviers Academy and then is almost immediately killed by Apocalypse and his followers. There is no better representation of how Alex Summers is treated when compared with his brother than this. The MCU is likely going to be exploring a lot of different mutant teams beyond just the traditional X-Men and X-Factor is one of the perfect teams to start with. X-Factor worked with the government as their mutant task force, a concept that has already been explored in Captain America: Civil War. It would make sense that as a new superpower emerges into the world, the government would want to forge a close bond and even some control over it since they failed to do that with the Avengers. This would perfectly lead to the introduction of Alex Summers. If the X-Men have Scott Summers then having Alex lead X-Factor, like in the comics, would help to create a natural bond between the two groups. The MCU would be wise to avoid retrading too much of the ground that X-Men '97 so the MCU could focus on Alex's relationship with Magneto's daughter Polaris as opposed to his relationship with Madelyne. Focusing on this relationship can also make Alex and more important figure when balancing relationships between the X-Men and Magneto. The MCU could also explore the consequences of Alex turning evil, and possibly even telling the story in a way that improves it over the original comic storyline. Scott Summers has been the focus of countless pieces of entertainment over the years. From taking the forefront in the comics to always being the center of live-action and animated stories. As the MCU looks to do a different take on mutants, Alex Summers is the perfect character to shift focus too. He keeps fans connected to the original X-Men while also offering a chance for redemption for a character that is often forgotten about and pushed aside.

Alexander "Alex" Summers Havok 2 durability 3 fighting skills 2 intelligence 1 speed 1 strength 6 energy Biography Alex Summers was six years old when his father flew his family to Canada as a birthday surprise for his mother. Along the way, their aircraft was attacked by a Shi'ar spacecraft. Their father gave his two sons the only parachute and, clinging on to his older brother Scott, Alex and Scott jumped out of the aircraft leaving their parents to their own fate. The Summers brothers were taken to a nearby orphanage run by Sinister, who later adopted the two of them as his own sons. Scott became Sinister's favorite son which drove a wedge between Scott and Alex, who quickly became jealous of his brother. Sinister would train his two sons every day and weld them into becoming the finest of Apocalypse's soldiers. Alex and Scott were both given the title of Prelate. In the meantime, their father, Christopher, managed to escape from the Shi'ar empire and returned to Earth in a stolen aircraft. Unfortunately he was also infected with a Brood egg. His aircraft was captured by Infinites and he was sent to Sinister, who kept his return secret from Alex and Scott. After years of being experimented on, Christopher managed to escape and Sinister ordered his Elite Mutant Force to recapture him. Alex and Scott located Christopher in the "Ghost Lands" where he revealed that he was their father. Although Christopher told his sons the story of how they got separated, Scott remained unconvinced but Alex believed he was really their father. Their reunion was cut short however when, during a battle between some scavengers, Christopher's Brood egg hatched and Scott was forced to kill his own father to save him. This act would only cause a further rift to appear between Alex and Scott. Havok became a regular at Angel's nightclub "Heaven" and began an affair with its singer, Scarlett McKenzie. Due to the fact that Scarlett wasn't a mutant, Havok was forced to keep this affair a secret to avoid being accused of miscegenation. Havok was unaware that Scarlett was secretly working for the Human High Council. When Weapon X and Jean Grey infiltrated Apocalypse's Atlantic Sea Wall, they clashed with Havok. During the battle, Havok was accidentally fused with a Sentinel when they both entered a transporter together. Beast was later forced to remove the parts of the Sentinel with a bone-saw. In the meantime, Sinister's betrayal of Apocalypse became open and Cyclops put himself in charge, much to Havok's annoyance. Havok began to investigate the mysterious escapes from the breeding pens. He interrogated a witness to one of the escapes called Lorna Dane who told him that Magneto was the one responsible for the escapes. Frustrated, Havok sent her to the Beast who tortured her into telling him the truth. She was rescued by Cyclops and sent back to the breeding pens. Later that night, Cyclops, in disguise, helped Lorna escape from the pens. Unbeknownst to Cyclops, Havok was observing this occurrence from a distance. He now had the information necessary to remove Cyclop's authority and take control of the Elite Mutant Force himself. Jean Grey returned to the pens in search of Sinister, who recently supplied information of Apocalypse's plans to the Human High Council, but was captured by Havok. When Cyclops saw Jean was a prisoner of the Beast, he refused Havok's order to kill her and was captured by Sam Guthrie. As this was occurring, Scarlett realized that she was pregnant with Havok's child when she became ill during one of her performances. However it was also discovered that she was working for the Human High Council and she was captured. When word reached Apocalypse that Havok succeeded Cyclops as commander of the pens, he ordered that every prisoner should be culled. Cyclops and Jean managed to escape and tried to free the prisoners by destroying the Brain Trust. The Brain Trust psionically anesthetized the prisoners so they lacked the will to escape. After destroying the Brain Trust, Cyclops and Jean encountered Havok. As brother battled brother, Cyclops got the upper hand and knocked Havok unconscious. After freeing the prisoners, Jean used her telepathic powers to prevent the Human High Council's missiles from destroying New York City. However Havok sneaked up behind Jean and used his powers to kill her before killing Cyclops. Scientists recalled earth’s tumultuous beginnings, with its volcanic landscapes and charged atmosphere, to understand how life could emerge from such a seemingly inhospitable environment. Sulfur isn’t a glamorous star of the periodic table. But it’s a chemical shapeshifter, taking on various forms. It helps form proteins, vitamins, and even the building blocks that make up our own DNA. RNA world and sulfite The basis of the study is a theory called the “RNA world.” You might have heard of DNA, its more famous cousin, but RNA is a versatile multitasker. But billions of years ago, earth’s atmosphere had very little oxygen, meaning sulfite might have stood a better chance. Could there have been enough to create the building blocks of RNA? “No one has actually looked into this in depth outside of other contexts, mainly wastewater management,” Dr Ranjan pointed out. The scientists recreated early earth-like conditions in the lab to uncover the secrets. Stability and instances of sulfite Contrary to assumptions, the study exposed a previously unknown characteristic of sulfite – it undergoes disproportionation. This reaction could significantly impact our understanding of its availability for prebiotic chemistry. “Once it’s in the water, what happens to it? HPV-Linked Head and Neck Cancers Have Surged 300% Since the 1980s, Experts Warn Throat cancer falls under the broader category of head and neck cancers—an area seeing a dramatic rise in cases linked to HPV. Over the past two decades, HPV-related head and neck cancers have surged, prompting growing concern among medical experts and public health advocates alike. “From the 1980s to the 2010s, the rate of HPV-related head and neck cancers has gone up by 300 percent,” said Dr. Ted Teknos, a head and neck cancer specialist and president and scientific director of University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center in Cleveland, Ohio, in an interview with SurvivorNet. While not all oral cancers are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV)—the most common sexually transmitted infection in the U.S.—there is a well-established link between the virus and certain types of head and neck cancers. RELATED: Why the HPV Vaccine Is So Important in Preventing Cancer WATCH: Understanding the Human Papillomavirus According to Dr. Allen Ho, a head and neck surgeon at Cedars-Sinai, HPV infection is incredibly common among Americans. “The vast majority of humans in the United States, both men and women, will eventually get infected with HPV,” Dr. Ho told SurvivorNet. However, only a small fraction of those infected are at risk of developing cancer. “The important thing to know about HPV is that there are many different strains, and only a couple of them tend to be more cancer-inducing,” Dr. Ho explained. “Probably less than 1 percent of the population who get infected happen to have the cancer-causing virus that somehow their immune system fails to clear, and over 15 to 20 years it develops from a viral infection into a tumor and cancer.” Treatment for HPV-related oral cancers often involves surgery to remove the tumor, but may also include chemotherapy, radiation, or targeted drug therapies. In advanced cases, these treatments can affect a patient’s ability to eat or speak, although rehabilitation therapy can help many regain these essential functions. The rise in HPV-related cancers underscores the importance of prevention, early detection, and public awareness—especially when it comes to the life-saving potential of the HPV vaccine. HPV is “a group of more than 200 related viruses, some of which are spread through vaginal, anal, or oral sex,” according to the National Cancer Institute. While many sexually active individuals will contract HPV at some point in their lives, the virus is linked to several serious cancers. Though HPV is most commonly associated with cervical cancer, its reach extends far beyond. The virus is also known to cause cancers of the throat, vagina, penis, anus, and vulva. In fact, HPV is believed to be responsible for: 90% of anal and cervical cancers Approximately 70% of vaginal and vulvar cancers Around 60% of penile cancers Despite its widespread impact, screening options remain limited—especially for throat cancer. “There are no screening guidelines to screen for throat cancer, unlike cervical cancer with pap smears,” said Dr. Jessica Geiger, a medical oncologist at the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center, in an interview with SurvivorNet. “There are no standard tests to determine if you harbor the virus.” The good news? HPV-related throat cancers tend to respond well to treatment. “The cure rates for people who have HPV-related disease are a lot higher than those who have tobacco-related throat cancer,” Dr. Geiger explained. Protecting Against HPV: Why the Vaccine Matters More Than Ever Nearly 80 million Americans are currently living with human papillomavirus (HPV), according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). While most people won’t experience serious health issues, for a small percentage, HPV can lead to cancer. To reduce that risk, health experts strongly recommend the HPV vaccine, which protects against the strains most likely to cause cancer. What the Vaccine Covers Gardasil 9, the most widely used HPV vaccine, offers broad protection. According to the National Cancer Institute, it guards against “nine HPV types: the two low-risk HPV types that cause most genital warts, plus seven high-risk HPV types that cause most HPV-related cancer.” One of the most dangerous strains is HPV 16, which is responsible for 92% of head and neck cancers. The vaccine triggers an immune response that prevents infection from this strain—making it a powerful tool in cancer prevention. “The key with the vaccine is that you receive it before you have sexual encounters,” explains Dr. Geiger. “So that’s why these vaccines are approved for young children ages 9, 10, 11 years old, up to age 26.” Who Should Get Vaccinated—and When The CDC recommends the HPV vaccine for all male and female preteens at ages 11 to 12, administered in two doses spaced six to twelve months apart. The series can begin as early as age 9. Teens and young adults through age 26 who didn’t start or complete the vaccine series should still get vaccinated. Those who begin the series between ages 15 and 26 or who have weakened immune systems should receive three doses instead of two. While adults over 26 can still receive the vaccine, it’s generally less effective, as many have already been exposed to HPV. Still, individuals up to age 45 may choose to get vaccinated after consulting with their doctor about potential benefits. WATCH: Should children get the HPV Vaccine? Changing the Conversation Around HPV Vaccine hesitancy remains a barrier, often rooted in concerns that the vaccine encourages early sexual activity. To counter this, many health professionals are shifting how they talk about it. “I think rebranding the vaccine as a cancer vaccine, rather than an STD vaccine, is critically important,” says Dr. Teknos. Dr. Teknos believes that focused efforts to “change the mindset around the vaccine” can make a meaningful difference. By reframing the HPV vaccine as a powerful tool for cancer prevention, experts hope to boost vaccination rates—and protect more lives in the process. These findings could help researchers develop the first disease-modifying medications for TLE. TLE-affected brains possess five times as many zombie cells The researchers searched for signs of zombified cells in TLE-affected brains, comparing brain tissue samples from patients with autopsied samples from people without TLE. Despite the non-TLE group being significantly older than the TLE group, the epilepsy group had, on average, five times as many senescent cells in their tissue samples, according to lead researcher Patrick Forcelli. The study found that mice with seizures showed more signs of brain senescence than those without seizures. The team then attempted to remove the zombie cells from the mice using a combination of a leukemia-fighting drug and an anti-inflammatory plant. The treatment, known as a senolytic, reduced the number of senescent cells in the mice’s brains. Trials will need to be carried out to test this treatment combination as a senolytic in humans.
