Movies 'Jason and the Argonauts' still thrills, a testament to the work of Ray Harryhausen: Indie & art house films Updated Jan 10, 2019; Posted Apr 07, 2014 Facebook Share Twitter Share By Jamie S. Rich | For The Oregonian/OregonLive jason and the argonauts.jpeg The legendary battle between Jason (Todd Armstrong) and the skeleton warriors are a highlight of the vintage 1963 film version of "Jason and the Argonauts." (Columbia Pictures) Friday-Thursday, April 11-17; Laurelhurst Theater & Pub It’s been nearly a year since Ray Harryhausen left us, and there’s no better way to pay tribute to the special-effects pioneer than to see one of his best in a darkened theater. "Jason and the Argonauts" features some of Harryhausen's most memorable stop-motion creations, including the giant bronze statue Talos and a creepy army of swordfighting skeletons. Released in 1963, the mythological adventure is still capable of stoking the imagination -- and reminding you what it’s like to be a kid again. -- Jamie S. Rich
