But for fans who have already devoured—and repeatedly watched—the first three episodes of season two, it was difficult to not notice that abundance of sex scenes featuring Sydney Sweeney. While, yes, the season’s storyline does explain the magnitude of her intimate onscreen moments, it’s still left fans wondering why Sweeney has been sans clothes so frequently within the first three episodes. In an interview with The Independent, Sweeney addressed how it’s felt for her to take part in so many sensitive scenes, providing context for how working on Euphoria has felt more comfortable than previous projects she’s been a part of. “Sam is amazing,” she said, referring directly to Euphoria creator Sam Levinson. “There are moments [in the script] where Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here’…. He was like, ‘Okay, we don’t need it.'” She continued: “I’ve never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO show. When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.” Shop This Image TRENDii right scroll nav ii-ii-on-sale ASOS US-logo Miss Selfridge short sleeve collared mini dress in pink print-Multi $16.50 VIEW ii-ii-on-sale Mytheresa US-logo Konges Sløjd Charlene polka-dot tulle dress $92 VIEW ii-ii-on-sale Mytheresa US-logo Alessandra Rich Bow-detail printed silk minidress $897 VIEW Cerqular US-logo Womens Day Dress Pink Floral Short Sleeve Midi L $23.65 VIEW ii-ii-on-sale Maje US-logo Maje Woman's cotton Embroidered babydoll dress for Spring/Summer, size Medium, in color White / White $360 VIEW Mytheresa US-logo Rodarte Polka Dot silk twill minidress $1595 VIEW ii-ii-on-sale ASOS US-logo Noisy May denim mini dress in mid wash-Blue $27.60 VIEW ASOS US-logo Mamalicious Maternity star print nightdress with nursing function in charcoal gray $37 VIEW Shop This Image HBO. But unfortunately, she has experienced the opposite in the past, revealing that taking part in explicit scenes on other film sets left her feeling “disgusting”. “I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting… I didn’t feel comfortable with my cast mate or the crew, and I just didn’t feel like my character would be doing it,” Sweeney explained, adding that during those moments, she “didn’t feel like [she] was able to speak up”. The 24-year-old actor—and car enthusiast—also noted the blatant double standards between male and female actors when it comes to onscreen nudity. “[There’s a] stigma against actresses who get naked onscreen” and that “when a guy has a sex scene or shows his body, he still wins awards and gets praise, but the moment a girl does it, it’s completely different.” Adding to her point, Sweeney goes onto vent her frustrations over how the industry viewed her appearance in the critically acclaimed series The White Lotus. To the industry, her role as Olivia Mossbacher was considered a “breakthrough” performance, despite her incredible work in Euphoria long before. But to Sweeney, she believes that there’s one particular reason why her previous work before The White Lotus is yet to be rightfully recognised. “I’m very proud of my work in Euphoria,” Sweeney said. “I thought it was a great performance. But no one talks about it because I got naked. I do The White Lotus and all of a sudden critics are paying attention.” “People are loving me. They’re going, ‘Oh my God, what’s she doing next?’ I was like, ‘Did you not see that in Euphoria? Did you not see that in The Handmaid’s Tale?'” As avid fans of Sweeney’s entire resume, there’s one thing we know for sure—we can’t wait to see what’s next for the incredibly talented star.
