.. In many ways, you could say the official career and history of Spider Man began with The Hobgoblin .. his friend and antagonist.. sorry.. as we all know now.. The Hobgoblin was actually close Spider Man friend, Ned Leeds.. Ned Leeds had been haunted by his wife, Betty Brant's moaning in bed next to him at night over the death of her brother, for which she unconsciously and deeply inwardly felt Spider man to have responsibility, even culpability.. This haunted Ned so much that it set his mind brood.. a sense of the responsibility that Spider man had lapsed in .. causing inadvertently.. thru nothing more than Spider man's youth or inexperience or simply his inability to be in two places at once.. a sense of responsibility nevertheless that Ned Leeds could not help feeling Spider man had lapsed in.. for Ned could not accept the death of Betty Brant's brother.. Ned Leeds resolved to become The masked Vigilante the Hobgoblin rather abruptly.. resolving to become better than Spider man.. better at everything that Spider man could do.. The Hobgoblin WOULD be capable of being in more than one place simultaneously, like a quantum particle or quon.. and something happened.. the Hobgoblin was so frustrated when he felt himself encountering failure after failure in his personal projects.. that he felt he couldn't hope to even approach being nearly as good as Spider man .. let alone better...
