I never saw the movie.. I think the violence against Jennifer Jason leigh's character had to be off-panel, outside the shot...

I believe Jennifer Jason leigh was supposed to be going through an extra-dimensional phase-shift, where she was splitting into two different female people in two different dimensions... the hitcher himself was supposed to undergo the same process...

the violence against Jennifer Jason leigh in that movie is impossible.. cables or ropes would not be able to tie around themselves and around her arms or legs.. they would slip off .. they would just slip away... also on a show about impossible stunts a man of medium build once tied to airplanes to himself and they went off in opposite directions and they just couldn't move and he was unharmed.. he was a stocky man, much like bob hoskins..
