Eventually able to find the opportunity of a lifetime when she began filming Game of Thrones at 14, Turner went on to star in all 8 seasons of that beloved show and made the most of it. "I didn't know HBO, I didn't know Game of Thrones, I didn't know George R.R. Martin — I barely knew what TV was." With that in mind, you may be wondering how Turner wound up auditioning to portray Sansa Stark in the first place. When it came time for the people behind Game of Thrones to find young actors to star in the show, it must have been an extremely daunting process to undertake. Eventually opting to travel across the UK so they could cast a wide net for young actors with potential, they were allowed to enter a slew of schools so students could audition for them. Thankfully for Sophie Turner, the casting search came to her school at the time and she tried out. We just thought it was kind of a fun, jokey thing to do. However, given the fact that she was called back in to re-audition for the show several times before she ultimately got the part, you may assume she started to take things seriously before long. ADVERTISMENT Amazingly enough, based on what Sophie Turner said during the aforementioned Vogue Paris video, it seems she never really believed she would be cast as Sansa Stark. In fact, she thought it was such a long shot that she didn’t even talk to her parents about trying out for the show at first. “I didn't tell my parents I auditioned for Game Of Thrones”. Once Sophie Turner’s parents eventually became aware of her potential acting role, her mother was far from enthused. “My parents found out when I was in the final seven, and then my mom kind of freaked out, and she called my dad and said, 'I don't know if we can do this.'” ADVERTISMENT In an interesting twist, her mother found out that she’d landed the role before anyone else in the family and she was the one who got to tell Sophie the news. Thankfully, by that time her mother was on board and the two of them celebrated together in an interesting way. “She jumped on me and said, ‘You got the part,’ and we both ran and jumped in the pool and ate loads of pizza that whole day.
