HOUSEBOUND screenwriter to take a stab at Justice League Dark!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Justice League Dark is an interesting property for Warner Bros and DC. They've successfully made a really cool animated film out of the premise of the anti-heroes of the DC Universe forming their own shaky partnership to fight evil magic and monsters, but they've been struggling with a film version.
Guillermo del Toro was going to make a film based on this series and Doug Liman and Andy Muschietti also flirted with it for a while before leaving to go do their own thing.
Now it looks like Warners is forgoing the big fish and instead turning to the hungry up and comers as they've landed Gerard Johnstone to write the newest version of the script, which will focus on Constantine, Swamp Thing, Etrigan the Deman, Deadman and Zatanna joining forces, per Deadline.
Johnstone's not a household name yet, but he wrote and directed a kickass Kiwi genre flick called HOUSEBOUND. If you haven't seen it, then fix that ASAP. It's got a great sense of humor, but also genuinely creepy with a lot of twists and turns. That leads me to believe he's a smart gamble for the studio.
Johnstone is not attached to direct Justice League Dark, only to write the script. If the script is good enough it'll entice a big name director or the studio will say “Fuck it” and give him the job. Their track record with directors on their superhero properties isn't in the “Fuck it, let's give it to the new kid” realm, but anything is possible with that studio right now as it tries desperately to find a focal point for their huge superhero franchise.
Thoughts?
