Deadpool to cameo in LOGAN? Not so fast, says Ryan Reynolds!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Umberto Gonzalez wasn't going to let 2016 end without another big score, so he ran a rather intriguing story at The Wrap saying that Deadpool was going to cameo in Logan, possibly in a post credits scene shot by the new Deadpool 2 director David Leitch.
Ryan Reynolds was immediately bombarded on social media with fans excited about this possibility (I mean, who wouldn't want to see Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds as the best versions of their characters on screen together, potentially erasing the embarrassing X-Men Origins: Wolverine encounter from the history books?) and he shot down the rumor in the most Merc With A Mouth way possible:
Gotta say I love Reynolds referring to Jackman by his Les Miz prisoner number.
Logan director James Mangold in turn retweeted that, thanking Reynolds for stepping in and putting the kibosh on that particular rumor.
So, now the question is did Gonzalez belly flop this one or are both Mangold and Reynolds running a bit of social media disinformation in order to try to retain some small measure of surprise for a potential cameo?
My rather sizable gut is telling me it's the former. We saw the first 40 minutes of Logan at BNAT and the tone of it was definitely R-rated and there was some humor, but it was darker and a bit serious to throw in a crazy Deadpool cameo at the end for chuckles. It just doesn't feel like a fit to me, but who knows how the movie ends?
For now I'd say expect not to see Wade Wilson pop up in Logan come March. If he does, then yay! Pleasant surprise. If not, then it's not a soul-crushing disappointment.
