Home to over 30 million people, Jakarta — the capital city of Indonesia — has been sinking 6 inches every year, more than 10 times faster than the sea is rising. In the 2015 Climate Change Vulnerability Index, the city stood at the eighth position.
In 2014, the government introduced a $40-billion solution to prevent the city from sinking further. It included building a 20-mile-long (32 kms) sea wall, chain of artificial island, lagoon and an offshore artificial barrier. Let's see how the plan has shaped the lives of people.
