Yesterday, Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy sat down with screenwriter Chris Terrio to talk about the upcoming Batman v Superman, and Justice League. (great interview, check it out here)
He didn’t give any spoilers, but one sentence hints at Justice League’s plot. Terrio said: “For “Batman v Superman,” I wanted to really dig into everything from ideas about American power to the structure of revenge tragedies to the huge canon of DC Comics to Amazon mythology. For “Justice League,” I could be reading in the same day about red- and blueshifts in physics, Diodorus of Sicily and his account of the war between Amazons and Atlanteans, or deep-sea biology and what kind of life plausibly might be in the Mariana Trench.”
So Justice League Part One will feature Atlanteans, and Atlantis might be located inside the Mariana Trench. Also, there will be a war between Atlanteans and Amazons. We don’t know if there will actually be a war in the movie(like in Flashpoint Paradox), or if while exploring Atlantis’ origins, we find out that they have a common history with Themyscira that ended in an ancient war. Either way, it sounds awesome!
Terrio called Batman v Sperman and Justice league “the most rigorous dramaturgical and intellectual product” of his life. He also said that just because he wrote Justice League Part One doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll also write part two.
