I had to learn how to act.. an impossible task to set for myself... but one which I earnestly, sincerely wanted to set for myself.. to learn .. how to act.. second.... I wanted to play a Batman who was Charles Manson.. and who was also the Adolf Hitler of the era of the beer-hall putsch... I wanted this Batman that I played to be the same person as the Christian Bale Batman.. in the sense that the Christian Bale Batman had to enter a self-dissociation... a self-dissaccociation... where the Christian Bale Batman was so horrifying that he could no longer.. be .. himself.. he had to be .. now.. me...
