The really sad part is that they’re throwing away their education on one of the lesser MCU big crossovers. Maybe not as bad as Inferno, but it’s certainly one of the weaker big events.
Tony Stark comes across as a fascist asshole, they invalidate years of historical relationship, and then they completely invalidate the big Spider-man reveal. It was a pretty lame story overall which felt totally forced. I thought Winter Soldier was surprisingly good, so I have some faith they’ll make an entertaining film, but the source material is a big problem.
Now, if the kids were somehow neglecting their education due to an over involvement in The Age of Apocalypse, that I could fully support…..

See, Tony being a fascist asshole will make far, far more sense in the MCU's version because we've already seen Tony progressively become more and more of a douchebag as the films go on. Iron Man was supposed to be about a total prick gaining a soul and beginning the road to rehabilitation, but the sequels tossed that out the door in favor of focusing on more 'quirky' Stark antics. So the way I see it, by just embracing the fact Tony's become a worse person, they're fixing this problem.
